Embellished Shoulder Pads

A few weeks ago I stumbled upon my new favorite fashion DIY site P.S.-I made this and fell in love with these embellished shoulder pads.  


Now I'll admit that as much as I loved them my husband, sisters, brother-in-law, mom, brothers, and the dog all thought I was crazy.


But I really saw potential in it and wanted to go for it.


After $100 and 3 craft stores later this is what I ended up with.


So if you are brave enough to try this here's how you do it.


Need:


Shoulder pads- (The original DIY seems to use like big full pads, I used half pads)


Feathers - Peacock and Black is what I used.


Metallic Fabric Paint (I used Lumiere by Jacquard in Pearl Turquoise- and I LOVE this color.Any other ideas what I can use it for?)


Gems


Rosette Trim (optional) I had a very hard time finding anything similar in stores that the original had, so I bought wedding floral picks and had intended to cut off the stem and glue the base down. But I ended 
up not using them because they didn't look right.

Simple tee shirt- Walmart


This is a pretty simply DIY so I won't walk you through it. But here are the pictures of the steps.

The trickiest part was securing the shoulder pads. I initially wanted to velcro the pads to the shirt so they would be easier to remove to wash the shirt but they wouldn't stick right. So I used safety pins. This is a step you'll have to mess around with on your own to make it easiest and most comfortable for you.


I also didn't make them sit right on top of my shoulders for two reasons. 1. The pads weren't really flexible enough to sit on the shoulder and 2. I'm only 5 ft tall so I thought it might be to much on me.


So there you have the completed project. If you follow me on Twitter you saw that when I started the project I let all my naysers get in my ear and I wondered if it was fashion roadkill, but honestly I'm pretty surprised how they turned out and I love love love love them.

Fashion Mourning

I'm wondering if there was anyone else out there who reads my blog who was poised and ready to spend a buck on fantastic clothing this morning? 


You'll remember that last week I introduced you to my favorite Flash Sale websites. The best one being The OutNet who in celebration of their one year anniversary was offering their shoppers Marc Jacobs, Stella McCartney, Phillip Lim and best of all Christian Louboutin's for one dollar. The only catch was you could only only purchase one thing and the start of the sale was a secret until the moment it started.


When I heard about the sale I immediately determined I would not sleep at all and would stay up and constantly check my email to be ready to go. But in the excitement of my husband coming home and being able to catch up on 4 episodes of Lost (I think I've figured it out by the way) I completely forgot about the sale until about midnight. I popped open my laptop and logged on to Gmail, put my phone on vibrate and kept my phone and credit card in my hand waiting for the buzz of the phone alerting me to new email. 


(Unbeknownst to me my husband snapped a picture of me when he came back to the room. Of course the bright like sun flash woke me up.)

So there I am laying in bed in my cute polka dot jammies dreaming and hoping and praying that this sale wasn't a farce and that all the rumors we're true.


I think I got up once an hour to check my email. Finally at 7:45 AM I popped up checked my email and saw that it had started. With shaking legs and blurry vision I rolled onto the floor pulled my laptop up and logged on.


It was there and then  at 7:48 AM that all my hopes and dreams we're shattered like a light bulb when I begin to pursue the page only to find big huge pink circles that spelled out those horrific words....Sold Out.


I was positively bummed out and couldn't believe my bad luck. 


But like I said on Twitter "We'll always have full price Christians, Phillip Lims & Stella. Time to pick myself up & get to My Gym "cwass" on time. #outnet :-("


Is there anyone out there that was luck enough to score anything or are we all mourning and sitting Shiva today?

Spring Dresses

What's a girl to do when there's 30 plus inches of snow on the ground and re-runs on TV? Dream of spring...the shopping way...


Fashion has always, always, been my first love. Those single days sent me to the bank every Friday and the mall every Saturday to blow EVERY single penny in my account (and sometimes more. Those damn over draft fees). I once long ago had a blog semi-dedicated to my love of shoes and clothes.


I've been looking for away to incorporate more fashion dedicated posting in my blog. I love some of the other bloggers that do outfit post. I'd like to try and do that and maybe start posting some of my favorite finds. Also thinking of doing a kids clothing post, because besides dressing myself dressing a kid is a lot of fun. And I want debunk the myth of not being able to be creative and fun with boy clothing. What do you think? Would you be interested in seeing shopping & fashion post?


Today I pursued one of my favorite websites Mod Cloth. I love everything this store has because I love vintage style and contrasting patterns. I mean I REALLY love contrasting patterns! When I start to do outfit post you'll see it. On me, Phoenix, Shawn and the dog (well if we had one).


Today I picked 6 of my favorite dresses from Mod Cloth for spring. 


Dresses are my favorite thing to wear any season. I prefer them to jeans anytime. Even though I'm a mom I haven't sacrificed my love of dresses. It just means that instead of bending over to pick up the rogue paci you gracefully squat down. Takes practice. 


And instead of heels I pair them with ballet flat, sandals (flat & wedges), boots (flat and wedge) in the winter. Side note: I've found wedges are a great alternative to heels because they give you the height (which I need) and sexiness without causing you to topple over.

P.S. Sorry for all the font changing. When I revamped my blog the font went wonky and I'm trying to get it right. It seems "normal" is to big and "small" is to well...small. I guess I'll ask you. What font do you prefer to see here?

A feather skirt for me & you

I just got done reading my craft blogs and was pointed to my now new favorite, I'm going to stalk it obsessively blog. ...I love Maegan.

I was summoned to her website because of this amazing, amazing, amazing feather skirt!

I LOVE IT! No love is a serious understatement. I am in high lust. Pulse beating fast, butterflies in the tummy. I thought this was the one until I stumbled upon this.

And now I am addicted. 

So of course you know what I just got done Googling right? Yup. Army surplus stores because I need, need, need this jumpsuit!
 
Fashion has always been my heart. I have all of these ideas for clothes in my closet. But I'll admit it. I get scared.

But then I see her blog and I'm thinking. "Why not?!" 

I'm still young (22 as of yesterday. Happy Birthday to Me) and so what if I'm a mom (because yeah being a Mom sometimes has me second guessing some more "adventurous" costume {because aren't we all just playing a part anyhow?} choices) I better do this now while I'm still young and while my KIDS are still YOUNG before I start embarrassing my kids.

So I'm totally (I'm 22 "totally" is like, still, totally in my vocab) making this skirt.

I have no idea where I'm wearing it yet. But I am going to make that husband of mine take me some place.

Our Personal Fall Lookbook

Before each season I like to think about what look I want to go for, for that upcoming season. This summer it was dresses and boho. A constant in the winter for me is always a great pair of boots, last year it was booties. This year, I want flat riding style boots. Haven't found that pair yet so if you see any good one holla' at yo girl homie :-P

While pursing the latest celebrity rags I stumbled upon the same photo of Kate Hudson. And couldn't help but think how much I loved her style.

I loved the whole effortless look she had going on and even though it was this oversized guy shirt it was very sexy.

This picture made me decide my Fall look would be The Boyfriend look. Gap is a great help in achieving this look as is Piperlime. And of course your husband or boyfriends closet.
I tried the look out Friday and I loved it, but it was like 90 degrees so I was a bit hot.

So for me it's going to be oversized button downs, cardigans, loose t shirts, tight tshirts, boyfriend jeans (look at Gap for these), trench coats, blazers and a good belt.







For shoes, I'm thinking moccasins or these great Sanuk Sidewalk Surfers for when I'm running to Target or My Gym.





For more sexier, gown up times I'm thinking sexy stillettos. Even those Coach ones I have my eyes on.



Here's a good article I found while looking for pictures. The article said that you still want to add girly touches. Big earrings, necklaces, braclets. If you are going to do a button down, pair it with skinny jeans and stilettos. Baggy cuffed jeans? Tight vintage inspired tshirts. Get it?

Do you like to plan out a look for the season? If so what's yours going to be?

I also have started planning Phoenix's look as well. He has two looks this fall. Preppy baby. Button down with the sleeves rolled up and baseball caps (ha like he'll wear them), puffy vests, baby Uggs and converse.


His second look is going to be rocker baby chic. Washed out demin and skinny jeans. And yes they make skinny jeans for boys at of all places TARGET! I'm not finding good examples of this baby rock look. But you get the idea right?

And these great shoes I found from Esty will be a perfect compliment to his baby rocker style.
