This is Us - Video Montage

Some of you may know that Shawn is in the music industry and I of course wrestle a lot with the fact that he does travel a lot and he happens to be around a lot of beautiful women and around women who could really care less about vows, family, and wives so at least once every 3 months I have a huge freak out "But what if!?"

They're irrational fears because I happened to be married to one of the really, really, good guys and he does a  great job of going the extra mile to make sure I feel comfortable and safe.

But whenever I have an insecure moment and he talks me down from my "ledge"  the words he says are eerily similar to these from B.O.B and Bruno Mars (Nothin' on You) and every time I hear the song I'm like "Hey! We should collect royalties on this because it's exactly what he says to me!"

So last night after listening to the song and feel extra nice and romantical I decided to make a little video montage of us.

I'll like you forever, I'll love you for always. As long as I'm writing my reader's you'll be...

Men are babies

Look I have a very serious question I need answered. What is it about men that when they get sick they act like big p-u-s-s-y-s (if I spell it instead of saying it its not that bad right?)

Every time Shawn feels a sniffle, a headache or body ache he's all "Baby...I don't feel goooooooood"

He's probably going to be pissed I'm putting all of his business out for the world to see, but that's what happens when you're married to a writer blogger.

Last night was one of those nights. Every minute I saw him all he could ask about was Therflu (which he completely overdoses on) and Tylenol.

I pushed an 8 pound baby out of the place I pee from. No drugs. 21 hours. Then after I recovered from being ripped into a million places I then put this beautiful boy onto my nipple and for the next 8 months it felt like someone was taking a lighter and running it across my nipples.

Not to mention 28 days out of a month my uterus falls out for 4-5 days, all to be able to bore him more babies.

So what it is it? Have you women out there figured out what makes our strong sexy husbands wither and whine when they have a sinus headache?

And on the off chance I have any male (oh my I actually typed that out as "mail".loser.) readers....what's the deal?

And honey. Even though I just put you out there I still love you much! OVOVOVOV ;-)

10 fun things to do with your husband

In celebration of Valentines Day I wanted to post some fun and cute things to do with your husband I found in January's issue of Cosmo.

Now don't go judging me. I don't subscribe to this magazine nor do I buy it in the store. I learned a while ago that Cosmo was kind of lame and recycled their sex tips all the time.

But I was at the hairdressers last month getting my hair colored (I need to post a picture) and read it and ripped out the section of like "50 ways to have fun with your guy".

Some were racier then I'd like to put here on my blog (considering my mom, grandma and mother-in-law read this) but my favs were G-rated.

Sometimes with the stress of parenting and household things my marriage can get stuck in a rut. It's fun to switch it up with new things every once in awhile.

1. Tune into a Travel Channel special one night and make a theme dinner to match.

2. Try to out-cheese each other with funny love notes, like "Some bunny loves you."

3. Use Rock,Paper, Scissors to decide pressing arguments like what to watch on TV.

4. Have cocktail night once a month, and try new recipes. We do something similar where we have like appetizers for dinner (or sometimes just cupcakes) these pot stickers are my fav and are very easy.

5. Make up aliases, and stick with them all night.

6. Bake his favorite childhood treat (ask his mom for the recipe)

7. Pick ridiculous ringtones for each other.

8. Make up stories about other people while waiting in line. (We do this)

9. Look at pricey real estate ads, and debate which property you'd "buy" (We actually just started doing this, because us buying a house is very, very close to happening soon!)

10. Try to throw as many cliched song lyrics into your conversation as possible, like "You are the wind beneath my wings."

Have fun!

Guilty as charged!

I think I have posted a few times about some fights difference of opinion conversations Shawn and I have had. Ones that ruin perfectly delicious mushroom & swiss turkey burgers.m

If you break down our "differences" and pull away all of the nasty stuff people say in fights and get to the root issue you will see that on my side it's a disagreement about him not being able to set boundaries with work and on his side it's that I act like I'm superior then him.

So I was watching The Today show last Monday and they were discussing a new book about being a superior wife.
I'm sure just by the title of that you can figure out what it's about.

I can honestly say that I am very guilty of that "I can do it better then you" attitude. Just yesterday morning I said to him this was my last week cleaning the house and he needed to hire me a housekeeper. His response was "Well give me some chores." my response "I don't like how you clean" The same goes for the cooking, or the diaper changing, or the dressing, or the laundry, or the scheduling of appointments, paying bills, yeah scratch that. Ha!

I just think that I simply do it all better. And maybe I do. I think even Shawn can admit that I'm a little better at the cleaning, cooking, and other household stuff. But that doesn't mean I can't relinquish some of that control and let him try right? How will he ever learn to do it the way I want or better yet, why can't I embrace his ways?

But on the other side of being a superior wife are husbands who enjoy handing over the "control"to their wives. And I personally think my husband falls into that category. It makes life very easy for him to walk into a room and say "Have you see my w..." and before he even gets the words out I've handed him the missing wallet, keys, and the check to deposit that he accidentally threw in the trash.
He doesn't need to worry about getting Phoenix ready for church on Sunday and getting dinner on the table while folding laundry.

I'm seriously considering ordering the book because I've tried for the last year and a half to change. We've been living together (married almost a year) for 3 years but it's only recent that I can agree I am a bit anal, controlling, and superior acting.

Are YOU guilty of being a superior wife?

The fight that ruined the burgers

*UPDATE 1: If you read this post shortly after I wrote it out you would have counted, not one or two but at least 3 or 4 grammatically incorrect words, sentences or phrases.

*UPDATE 2: Date night/Re Do Thursday Night and decided to stay in and redo the burgers while reading great books we picked up from the library and catching up on TV shows. Followed by chocolate chip cookies. Diet has completely fallen by the waste side the last week. Back on it Monday. But for now, enjoying my food.

Yesterday was just one of those days. For starters, Phoenix's morning nap was interrupted by the darn recycle pick up. He was only sleep about 20 minutes and then they show up and he was back wide awake! So for most of the day I tried tiring him out so he would want to take another nap, this did not happen. By mid afternoon Shawn and I had a bit of a disagreement. I was trying to convince him (like always) why my way was better and trying to get him to see the bigger picture of a particular situation. This ended up in us spending the rest of the afternoon apart which was fine, because I then had to chase Phoenix up and down the stairs. So I grabbed my Coach bag and we headed to Walmart to buy a gate.

By this time everything was kosher with Shawn and I. I had stopped by to see my parents and called Shawn and asked him to peel and cut Phoenix sweet potato for his french fries (just add a bit of salt, cinnamon and cinnamon sugar and they are much better then the other recipe I posted). They take 30 minutes to cook and I knew I would at least be an hour so I wanted him to cook them so all I had to do was throw on the burgers for dinner. BUT this did NOT happen and it ended up being a much bigger fight then I anticipated and turned my house upside down! I needed ice so I stupidly break the bag in the kitchen that sends the ice all across the floor. Then it's time for dinner and I break a full glass of lemonade. While trying to yell at Shawn and get dinner on the table I then slip and fall hard on the spilled ice!

It was an absolute mess! I went to bed with the house a disaster. I'm not one of those people who can leave dishes until the next day. It messes with me, but last night I did. My house was a mess when I woke up this morning, the kitchen smelled like onions and I had the biggest headache ever.

Thankfully we made up and pitched in and got a bunch done this morning!

On the menu last night were these delicious Roasted Garlic Turkey Burgers. I hate when we have a good dinner planned and it gets ruined by a stupid lovers quarrel. I could definitely tell these burgers had AWESOME culinary potential but by the time I went to eat it mine was cold :-( good, but cold.

Instead of using blue cheese (not fond of it) I used swiss cheese and put the swiss cheese on top of the onion & mushroom mixture and popped it in the oven to melt while the burgers were finishing.

Also toasted the rolls and used some leftover garlic butter and I did use ground turkey breast. I think I'll be trying these again next week!

Let me know what you think!

The struggles in my marriage

Whenever I write in my blog I want to be as transparent as possible. Showing you all the good, and cropping all the bad pictures where you can still see a bit of baby bulge. But seriously in the vein of being transparent, I think it's fitting I share just one of my huge struggles.

Is it possible that without even knowing your husband can just slip away....? That the person you once had laying in bed with you cuddling at night talking about silly shit can be so far from you? The person who would hang on your every word and now he only responds with "Huh? What?"

I think this is happening....I think my husband is falling more and more in love with something or someone else more then me....

I think he's in love with his Blackberry.....

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Shawn has a one track mind. On one hand that's a benefit in our relationship and in his career. For us, I know he can only focus on one women at a time so I don't worry there will be others. I know when he's working he has one goal in mind. He's got a lot of drive...But this can certainly back fire big time! Ever since I've known him he's had a love for his phone. Text messaging, emailing, calling people. His phone is always attached to him. But since he's started with this new record label I think he snuck off and had his phone surgically attached to his hand. He has phone conferences for HOURS! Last nights started at 10:30 and didn't end until past mid-night! God bless him, music is great and all, but come one! It's not like he's saving lives or anything!

The phone rings and beeps in the middle of the night. He never turns it off, he's never without it. He takes it into the bathroom and sometimes I wonder if he even slips it into a little baggie and takes it into the shower.

And to be fair...It's not just phone calls and text and emails. It's also web surfing. Ebay, allhiphop.com, CNN, Fox News, NY Times, etc. In fact instead of "winding" down at night and reading like a normal person he surfs the Blackberry web.

I had to kick him out of the room twice in the past 2 weeks because I'm trying to sleep and I all I hear a bunch of "click, click, click" as he "makes his rounds" as he says.

And I'm not the only one who notices it. Tonight he was supposed to be feeding Phoenix dinner and I looked over and he's typing away and Phoenix is tipping his food on his head. So I say "Hmm...teaching him to feed himself?" so he fumbles and finishes feeding him. Not 1 minute later Phoenix goes "Ma! Ma! Ma!" and I turn around Phoenix is peering around from his highchair calling me because Shawn has picked his phone up AGAIN! Phoenix kept calling me until I walked over, took the phone and hid it. Once I did that Phoenix started eating again.

I'm a Blackberry widow......

The husband that cleans

Does anyone else who has a husband who likes to straighten-up? Mine loves too, we both can sometimes go a day or two with messiness. Not filth, just kind of messy. But then we get crazy and it has to be cleaned up or we can't function. This weekend it was messier then usually with the holidays and we had a lot of packages delivered. There were boxes and tools, and shipping peanuts and mail just kind of scattered. Saturday night after getting home from the 4th festivities we put Phoenix to bed and I did a quick power clean while directing Shawn to certain areas. Then Sunday morning we went to the pool in the afternoon and again in the morning the house just kind of got turned upside down. But this time it was mostly Shawn's stuff. So when we get in from the pool Sunday he decides he needs to clean up. I'm sure a lot of wives would love for their husband to offer to clean up. But I am so obsessive compulsive that I loathe when he starts straitening up. He just piles things in different areas and throws stuff away that's not trash. To me it makes what was a simple 10 minutes power clean into a 2 day long search of where he put stuff. But my bitchiness and the fact I was extra tired from the sun and pool got the best of me and I kind of slightly spazzed and went upstairs and locked myself in the bathroom to wash my hair. I don't know why I get like that. I know he was just trying to help. I seriously either need to relinquish some control and be gracious and accept the help or "teach" him my way.

And have I mentioned I have a TODDLER!? He's walking! Not completely consistently but close. He does it more at his Yaya and Papouli's house because I think he doesn't like crawling on the hardwood. But when we are home he goes straight back to his knees or does this crab crawl. I'll have to catch that on video soon. It is terribly cute!
