Random & Peculiar Facts

I get tons of emails every day asking me "Alex! Alex! Please tell us more about you! You seem like such a cool awesome chick that I would love to hang out with in real life. I would love to know more random and peculiar facts abouts you"

So here you go "Betsy" here are 10 random facts for you (Betsy is the other personality in my head. She emails me all day long. I wonder how she gets email access?? And how "Betsy" would we actually hang out?)

1. I used to be afraid of mustard- like when I was in Bible School people would chase me around with it and I'd scream. But fast-forward and a few months ago I have found myself eating it every once in awhile

2. I had my first s'more 3 years ago and I HATE them.

3. Eye graguated hi-scool at aged 15. Top of my class baby.

4. I've never been out of the country.

5. I was engaged (with parental consent) when I was 16 (had something to do with going to Bible School.)

6. I don't know how to blow bubble gum, blow up a balloon, whistle or snap my fingers. (Hmmm...maybe that was a class in Bible School The Biblical Reasons not to Blow. ?? LOL)

7. I have a super fantastic memory. Almost scary how great it is. All my memories are categorized by what outfit I'm wearing. Just ask my husband.

8. Speaking of husbands....I was dating my husband before we actually "met" (is that a story you'd be interested in?)

9. I can't say the words vagina or penis without cringing (again probably has something to do with the whole Bible school thing)

10. I turn off the TV when scary movie previews come on.

I've linked this post up at "Friend Friday" over at Modly Chic

Easter Picture Overload

I hope everyone had a great Easter Sunday. I love it now that its Spring and I literally can not wait to get outside. Even if its just to grab the runaway George before nap time.

It's lovely outside. Sadly my springtime partner is still gone and I woke up this morning (A little annoyed at him. Hey! You would be too if your husband decided to Twitter before calling you after a 7.9 Earthquake in Cali!) happy that the countdown had now moved to 4 days until he got home.

But after talking to him I find out he'll be staying an extra 4 days. I should be really glad because its good news. And I am glad, but I miss him and I'm bored and I want to go to DC and hold hands and look at cherry blossoms.

And I hate sleeping alone. Phoenix is a nice substitute but the whole thing of him kicking me and hitting me in his sleep (and rolling off the bed once) is getting old. And although I love watching all my Gossip Girls and 90210's uninterrupted I have a lot of LOST and Nurse Jackie's that are waiting to be watched with my friend.

So I'm a little sad.

But I did have a nice Easter yesterday. I took Phoenix and my niece Penelope outside to take some pictures because my soul wasn't ready to go back inside yet.

I wasn't completly sure what to put into the kids baskets so I just grabbed a bunch of cute stuff.

Phoenix-
Free Willy on DVD-one of my favorites when I was little, plus I thought he would enjoy a "live action" Nemo. He didn't.
"Nemo" toy"Hanny" Manny toy phone
And frog cup and snack container
Plates (you can always use more dishes right?)

Penelope-
Ladybug bath mitt and bath pouf
Ladybug cup and plates
Pig snack container (clearly out of ladybugs)
Baby doll

And get this. Can you believe Phoenix's outfit was from dun, dun, dun....KMART?! Zionks! When it comes to clothing from "variety stores" (That's what Hanny Manny called them in a recent episode) I'm strictly a Target girl (although the Miley line at Wal-mart has helped them) but I needed to pick up some stuff (definition-I really wanted to buy stuff and Kmart was the closest store. My husband really shouldn't go out of town and leave me in charge of the cards. I think I've had a package delivered every day he's been gone. And if you asked me what I bought I couldn't really tell you.) and there was those cute shorts and button down shirt. Score.

Also have you had a chance to catch me on YouTube? I'd love if you could for a minute and let me know what you think.

Phoenix say's...."P!"

I hope you all missed me because I certainly missed posting. The whole time I'm moving boxes and organizing things in our new apartment (aka my sisters bedroom) I'm itching to get back on here and jot down some thoughts.

Luckily, I have my trusty new Blackberry to make notes of all the ideas that have been swimming in my head the last week.

We are here at my parents house settled and happy. Our plans have changed recently and they have Shawn leaving for LA on Monday for two weeks. After that he's back home. Where we go from there is still up in the air. I don't know how much detail I'm allowed to divulge, but my hopes are after these two weeks we can stay here in Maryland for another several months (meaning we look for a new place) or B. Our paycheck is substantial enough to allow us a place in Maryland and LA.

But with this industry you never know what can happen.

I had every intention today to start making more relevant post rather then some random "Sorry I'm lame post" but I started this post at like 11 am and for whatever reason I just couldn't be still long enough to make anything happen.

Sheesh...I hates when this happens.

If you're new to the blog, he-yo (Phoenix speak) and hi. Thank you so much for reading. If you want to know why I moved and all that you can get the details here.

I'll be back tomorrow with something better.

In the meantime listen to my 19 mth old say "P" which means "pimp". This is what happens when you have aunts & uncles under the age of 17. They have taught my little monkey how to do some kind of hand symbol while saying "P". It's hard to catch him on video, but this is the best I've got.

A few weeks ago he stood up in the booth at a restaurant and went "Yo yo yo, yo yo yo P!!!!" and did his hand symbol. The wait staff died!

More $!&%(#@ snow?!

Here in the DC area we are swimming in about 30 inches of snow (what we got in Frederick). There is more snow on the ground then I have ever thought possible. The last big storm we got I was so excited, but now I'm totally ready to pour huge buckets of steaming hot water to melt all of this white powder and move on with my life!

At this very moment yet another storm of this year is falling. Friday we went to the mountain, today we decided to stay home and get some packing done. March will be here before I know it!

Yikes!

Now what is it they say again about Global Warming?

The slow sliding death of cake

Today was Phoenix's birthday...his 1/2 birthday this is. And now I have a kid running around my house who is almost 2. When did this happen? I mean I knew 2 was coming because he's gotten the eye roll down AND the folding of the arms whenever I tell him no or he gets pissed (and boy he gets pissed a lot!). If I ever wonder if he's mine I can just check the attitude.

But I really wanted to do something special for his birthday. For the last couple weeks he has become obsessed with Nemo. I mean I put it on in the AM turn the sound down and let it loop all day. Now before I get a bunch of comments about letting him watch TV all day. Rest assured it's not 12 hours of straight TV watching.

I like background noise and would rather have a kid show on while he's up then a bunch of loud commercials, talk shows, or my soaps. So we put movies in and he'll take a few 5 minute breaks here and there to watch it. Now that we're potty training this helps even more.

But nevertheless this one is his favorite to watch. He also loves dogs, but we've been down that path before so I decided to get him a fish. I really want a big goldfish or lots of little tiny ones but the people at Pet Smart said that we need a big heated tank to make that happen. And really I'm not sure If I'm going to invest in something he might not like.

So we got a simple Beta fish that we named Nemo, but we call him Mo because thats all Phoenix can say. He's pretty cute with "Mo" he'll go up and kiss the glass and wave buh-bye to him. And will call "Mo! Mo!" when's he looking for him.

Anyhow I decided to just do a cake for today since Mo seemed like a good enough present. And then I stumbled upon Remodelaholic's blog and she just so happened to have just celebrated her little girls 1/2 birthday as well.

She made her a half a cake in celebration and I thought the idea was adorable....

So I set out to make it and this is what I ended up with....

We put one candle and cut on in half.

As soon as I put the icing on it started spilling off and the top part started sliding off. Shawn's first instinct was to use bamboo skewers to stick in it to hold it up...didn't work. I then immediately popped it in the freezer because I thought it needed to harden. But after opening the freezer less then 5 minutes later I realized I had just made it in time to stop it from sliding again!

Once I sliced it, it looked slightly better...but not much.

I've always tried to remain completely transparent in my blogging and I really debated about sharing this with you because I was totally humiliated!

I don't know why but I decided I wanted to make the cake from scratch. Why I continue to torture myself with baking recipes I'll never know. I'm not a baker, never have been. Baking is scientific and mathematical and that is not me. But I continue to press on. I guess I figure if I can get this down it will justify this purchase.

But I just can't get it. Why I didn't just get a Betty Crocker box and icing I'll never know. Maybe it's all the blog envy I have from the super talented and crafty bloggers out there...but I tried....

I'm not sure if the icing wasn't stiff enough, cake wasn't cool enough or that you can't cut a cake in half and sit it on top of the other. No idea but it was a big fail in the presentation department.

Loved the taste (used this for the cake and this one for the icing), but when it comes to looks I think I've let my Martha down.

Midnight is the very last moment to enter into the giveaways so please do so! The winners will be announced Wednesday morning!

New York...Where dreams are made of.

New York City and all it's walking and cold weather makes a bloggers job tough.

For the second day in a row I'm just logging on to the internets at 11:00p.

Things are going super, super fantastic here.

If you are new to the blog the quick story that has landed me in NYC can be found here (OMG there is literally someone LEANING on the horn outside our hotel! Shut up!)
and here and yet again here.

Shawn has been taking about 3 or 4 meetings a day and I have brought my sisters along to see NYC and to also be apart of the showcase that took place today.

Showcase- A "mini" concert performed by a new artist for record labels.

This showcase also featured about 80 screaming 15 year old girls "OMG! He spoke to me" it takes me back to NYsnc phase. Oy vey!

At this time I actually have no idea when I'll be home to stay. Shawn has follow-up meetings (excellent news) tomorrow and Thursday. But I also have to get the girls back for school and Shawn needs to be in LA Tuesday PLUS our Monkey Baby is at his Ya's so not sure when I'll be back or when I can delve back into awesome blog post, but rest assured I do have something pretty exciting up my sleeve so I hope you'll stick around.

Thanks and welcome to all the new followers! I appreciate it much!
